Iran

Reconsider your need to travel to Iran. The security situation in Iran remains extremely volatile. It could deteriorate with little or no notice. On 8 January, Iran fired missiles against two military bases in Iraq, containing US personnel. Further attacks could occur. If you travel to Iran despite our advice, monitor media for risks. Avoid demonstrations, which can turn violent. Keep in close contact with family and friends so they know where you are.

We haven’t changed the level :

Reconsider your need to travel due to the volatile security situation and the high risk that foreigners, including Australians, could be arbitrarily detained or arrested. Dual nationals are also at risk.

Higher levels apply in some parts of the country.
